Quantifying Transcription of a Gene
Students worked in teams with researchers at the Cancer Center and determine changes in RNA levels of a gene involved in stress-response in plants. Their work helps us better understand the mechanisms of drug creation in plants.
Students Mary Sumlut, Lynnann Harding, and Kassi Gilbert successfully cloned PTAC promoter and a GFP generator using iGEM protocols to create a genetically engineered bacteria able to detect lactose and IPTG successfully. Additionally, their project examined the impact of maltose versus lactose regulation in bacteria.
