URSULINE CENTER FOR TEACHING AND LEARNING: HELP, WE ARE VIRTUAL!

Brescia University UCTL

TECHNOLOGY PREPARATION:

In preparation, you should make sure you have tested your access using the following equipment at home:

  • Laptop or desktop computer.
  • Microphone – this may be built into your laptop or computer, or you may use an external device such as a USB microphone or headset. (A headset is highly recommended.)
  • Webcam – a camera may already be built into your laptop, but you can also use an external USB camera for video conferencing.
  • Internet – If you plan to join a synchronous session, it is best to be connected to the internet instead of using WiFi.

Be prepared! It’s best to know these options will work for you before you actually need them. Test access to your equipment and resources at home before the need arises.

Communications

Remember to check your BU email regularly. Your instructors are likely to send announcements through email as well as through the announcements in LMS Moodle. When communicating with your instructors, it is good practice to label the subject line with the course number, title, your last name, and a specific subject.

Access Course Resources

Log in to LMS Moodle to see the latest announcements, posts, and assignments for your courses. For help on the features in Moodle please see the online orientation demo as well as our FAQ for answers to common questions.

How to Meet Virtually

Using Zoom in Moodle

This quick tutorial will give you a basic idea of logging into Moodle and using the Course Zoom link to meet virtually.

Recording in Zoom

This tutorial will show you how to record your session in Zoom. If you are using a free Zoom account, the recording will save to your computer as an mp4.  This can then be submitted in Moodle.

MS TEAMS combines modern online meeting technology with persistent chat, file storage, and collaboration. To get started you can log in to Microsoft Teams from your web browser.

O365 File Management and Production Tools

You can securely save files on your Brescia University One-Drive found in Office 365.  Saving your files here allows you to share information with your instructor and other students, and you can access them from anywhere. Your BU O365 One-Drive offers unlimited storage space with your BU account. You can download the Microsoft Offices tools from O365 to use on your own computer.  Microsoft Office includes PowerPoint, MS Word, Excel, and Publisher. These tools can be used on the web as well as on your desktop.

Library Resources

Not only can you search the library catalog to find articles, books, videos, and more at Brescia and worldwide, but the Father Leonard Alvey Library Libguide offers many resources to help you succeed as a student at Brescia University.
